HISTORY
In existence since the 1960's, the Legal Aid Society of Hawai`i Kaua`i
office has a long history of working to assist the Kaua`i community. Just
a few highlights of the Kaua`i office’s past work include: assisting individuals
when Kaua`i Electric was requesting significant rate increases, helping
Kaua`i residents affected by Hurricane Iniki, and representing abused
women through the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
The Kaua`i office continues to assist Garden Isle residents with family, public benefits, housing, and consumer law issues.
The purpose of the Intake Hotline is to provide easy access to services at the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii. Primarily, our clients can apply for services through our toll-fee state-wide phone service, which operates during the following times:
MONDAY - FRIDAY
9:00am to 11:30am in the morning, and
1:00pm to 3:30pm in the afternoon

Kaua'i's Center for Equal Justice is also open during normal business hours or by appointment.
The CENTER FOR EQUAL JUSTICE (CEJ) is a one-stop shop for justice that strives to empower unrepresented court users to resolve their legal issues on their own.

Legal Aid's CEJ is Hawaii's first self-help legal center. The CEJ has 4 main components:
1) Provides brief legal servies to eligible low- to moderate-income individuals and families in the areas of FAMILY LAW, HOUSING LAW, PUBLIC BENEFITS and CONSUMER LAW;
2) Provides the use of our facilities to those not eligible for Legal Aid, so that they may resolve legal issues on their own. These facilities include: computers, printers, typewriters, a legal library, a copy machine, telephones and a work area.
3) Publishes brochures and self-help packets on family, housing public benefits, and consumer legal issues; and
4) Offers 24-hour recorded scripts on legal issues.
