History
Legal Aid opened its Kona Office in 1979 with one paralegal. Originally located in the Captain Cook Shopping Center, the Legal Aid Kona Office relocated in the mid-1990's to Kealakekua and again to its current location in the lat 1990's where it continues to provide assistance with general legal services to the West Hawai`i community.
The Kona office established one of the first Medicare Advocacy projects of its kind in the state helping to ensure individuals of their Medicare rights. One of its most notable cases was Morris V. State of Hawai`i. The Kona office is also responsible for the launching of Legal Aid's Adoption Assistance project. Both projects have since been duplicated to assist individuals throughout the state.
